Southern Star Singapore's first factual production, a one hour documentary called Magaship, was commissioned by National Geographic Channels Asia. Part of the popular Megastructures series, the programme looked at the OOCL Atlanta, one of the largest cargo ships in the world which is longer than 35 double decker buses and whose interior is the equivalent of three football pitches.
The documentary followed Captain Roger Llewellyn as he guided the 130,000-tonne vessel from Singapore through the Straits of Malacca and the pirate infested South China Seas to some of the world's busiest ports. It was shot by a Singapore-based crew and was co-funded by National Geographic and Singapore's Economic Development Board. All the production, including 2D and 3D graphics, was carried out in Singapore. Southern Star Singapore is developing a number of projects for National Geographic and other Asian-based broadcasters.
